Angela, Congleton is a good way from Aston, it is just south of Manchester. I would say the 1872 one is more likely. In my experience ages on marriage certificates tended to be very vague and should be treated as a rough guide only. Liz

have my grandads marriage cert and he was 36 when he married my nan so worked out he was probly born 1870 know my grandparents lived in aston b,ham and the only birth i could find for warwickshire and staffordshire was dec 1870 in congleton do have another birth in aston but it is 1872 do you think this could probly be him his name was john william gibson thanks for advice angie x

Congleton Created 1st July 1837. Mainly in Cheshire, but included part of Staffordshire. Sub-districts : Church Hulme; Congleton; Sandbach. GRO volumes : XIX (1837-51); 8a (1852-1930). Alsager, Arclid, Betchton, Blackden, Bradwall, Brereton cum Smethwick, Buglawton, Church Hulme, Church Lawton, Congleton, Cotton, Cranage, Davenport, Elton, Goostrey cum Barnshaw (from 1867), Hassall, Hulme Walfield, Kermincham, Leese, Moreton cum Alcumlow, Moston, Newbold Astbury, Odd Rode, Radnor, Sandbach, Smallwood, Somerford, Somerford Booths, Swettenham, Tetton, Twemlow, Wheelock. Registers now divided between Cheshire Central and Staffordshire Moorlands districts
