hello again everyone, i posted a thread yesterday and would like to thank everyone for their advice but the problem is not yet resolved can anyone help me? I have a death cert for Henry Storer, Hopefully this is my grandfathers brother, the area is right and the age matches with the birth register, 27 born 1913 death 1941. Thing is the informant is down as E storer widow, well we didn't think he was married, his mothers name was Ethel, i know some people got back to me and said they had mistakes on certs. Have checked out the marriages on bmd, the 3 henrys that i found were not the same, the wives names didn't begin with an e, so it was suggested that i check the electoral role but just found out that this was not done during the war can anyone help with any more ideas be really grateful thanks yvette |

I didn't see the posts from yesterday - but just reading through this, isn't the E Storer his mother? Or was she already deceased by that time too? Leah |

You could try to find out if he left a will. Kate. |

Sorry, that was me suggsting the electoral roll......I didn't notice the date!! Maybe he had a lady friend to whom he wasn't married? More likely she's his mum though!! Was his mum a widow at this stage? I can see how there could be some confusion depending on how the registrar worded his Q's!! Was his mum a young woman when he was born, or a middleaged mum?? hi everyone, yes his mum would have been in her 60s by 1941 and yes she would have been a widow , but the death cert says widow of deceased, like i say though cant find a marriage, yvette |

The informant on my Great-Grandmother's death cert was described as F Hart - Niece. No-one has a clue who this is as she didn't have a niece and there are no Harts in the family. After much deliberation we have decided that 'Neice' should have read 'Nurse' as my Uncle vaguely remembers the old lady having regular visits from District Nurses, one of whom lived close by and was present at the death. I think yours must be a similar mistake - it did happen! Liz |

Hi Yvette, I'm in a similar postion my grandfather death cert also states widow as informant. I checked with the cementry and was given the same information ie Widow. the name given as his widow is no relation ie mother or sister. ( i have checked) i have checked marriages throughly as well. and have now hit a bit of a blank. over it all. If by any chance you do find a way round this then please let me know as i would be very interested. by the way the year i'm looking at is 1959 sue |

Yvette, I have had a look through the National Probate Calendar for 1941 to 1945 (to see if he left a will) but the only Henry Storer I could find in there was one who died in 1944. So no help there! Sorry. About that 'niece' thing - I have looked up a couple of Scottish death certs of my rellies where the informant is described as 'nephew' but he was actually the deceased's great-niece's husband, in one case, and the deceased's wife's great-niece's husband, in the other. I suppose that would have been a bit much to write in the box!! Kate. |

Ah, I see. So it actually says 'E Storer widow of deceased' - I'd be inclined to say it was a mistake. Perhaps when asked her relationship, she mentioned being a widow but not that she was his mother, or something. You know how it is at stressful times like that, being asked questions etc, sometimes you can't think straight. I had a similar error on a death cert of one of my ancestors. A mother had died and they had put her down as her son's wife (where it says 'Widow of...' they had her son's name instead of her husbands LOL). Then they put her husband down as the informant - but he was dead! You've got to laugh... Leah |

hi everyone thanks for all your replies, when i hear of the other mistakes that have been made i dont feel so bad (sorry) i hope the cemetery can help, but i am sure they are just going to have a name not any other details as to a relationship ect will have to wait and see yvette |
