Typically the quater in which I think my gt grandmother's birth was registered in seems to be missing from the Ancestry index..........when I put in a search for all quarters in 1893, only JFM, AMJ and JAS come up......................Is there anywhere that miscellaneous pages can be found? I seem to remember someone saying something about scrolling through, but was that by date, or by name?........TIA Claire xx

It is Mabel Parker and I think she was born in November 1893 in Kettering, Northampton. I have checked 1894 and 1892 and the other three quaters of 1893 just in case but she is not there so I am pretty sure she is in the missing quartser. I'd be so grateful if you can find, or tell me how I can find her. Claire xx (if I don't reply for a while, I am putting the kids to bed. :o) )

Right.....I left off her first name and did a search for just parker......The result showed: Mildred Palmer Alic Lawrence Parker 1893 Oct-Nov-Dec Sam Parker Agnes Gladys C Parkman 1893 Oct-Nov-Dec Her name would be on the page in between. The page is there (if you click on one of the other two and then click the green forward or back arrow), but I expect it's got indexed as Barker or similar!! If all the Parkers had been misindexed you might have had to search for ''Pat*'' or Pan*'' and then jumped forward or back a few pages to get to the right one. If you ever still can't find it, it's worth checking the page numbers on the film....there are some missing! After all that, I forgot to actually LOOK for your Mabel! LOL Whoops!! Merry

Assuming that you have found the Ancestry page OK with the 1837 - 1983 BMD Indexes (BETA) on it. Choose Birth Death or Marriage Put in the person's name and likely year of birth, death or marriage. The results show the four quarters and surname at the beginning of the page and surname at the end of the page, so from this you can estimate if your person's surname is likely to appear on this page. If so, you just click on the image viewing page which has a little blue magnifying glass on a sheet of text icon (at the end of each result). You will then be taken to the page and you will see surnames in alphabetical order. Look for your person. On the image view screen, there are plenty of navigation tools to take you forward or back if you are just a page out. Back and Forward Arrows plus magnification. You can also save the image to your PC if you wish to do so. At the very top of the image viewing screen, you will see something like this: You are here: Search England & Wales, Birth Index: 1837-1983 (Beta) 1952 Jan-Feb-Mar K You can click into the part that says Jan-Feb-March (on the screen in question) and search through the whole of the K's for January February March if your page seems to be missing. Hope this helps. Cheers, Horatia PS Now people can search for themselves for free it is a great bonus!

Thanks for all the tips. :o) I guess that COULD be my Mabel, Merry. I got her 1893 DOB from the death index. She lived to be 101 and there weren't many Mabels that lived that long so I am pretty sure I got the right one. I guess that the informant may have been wrong though. Thanks again Claire xx
