Trying to find a birth between about 1948-1955. Very ordinary surname, though mother has a very very unusual foreign name. So is there anyway of making this a quicker search rather than trawling through dozens and dozens of pages of the ordinary name please? |

Many thanks Val, but I wouldnt want to use your credits. Its a very vague period of about 6 years x 4 quarters and the surname very common. Will carry on trawling unless someone has a better idea. |

Can't you do that on the current Ancestry free access to BMD? The mother's name will be against the birth entry. |

There is no way of narrowing it down, but at least it will jump off the page when you see the maiden name :-) Do you have a christian name for the birth, or are you having to look through umpteen pages each quarter as well? Sam |

Thats what we are doing Brian, I just wondered if there was any way someone brilliant could suggest to cut down the amount of trawling with a common surname but very unusual maiden name for mother. Guess not. |

its free on Ancestry to look at BMD index http://www(.)ancestry(.)co(.)uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx remove brackets If you have any 1/4's missing could be mistranscribed go to 1/4 that is there click on it then click on year above then 1/4 missing then letter then just go through image pages until you get to right one Jeanette |

Thanks Sam, thought as much, but with my increasing senior moments, wondered if there was anyway the maiden name could be used as a source. Onwards and upwards then .............:) Thanks Jeanette, perhaps I havent been clear, I and another person are trawling on there at present, but I just wondered if there was a quicker method - the old sciatica playing up when I have to sit here too long! |

Have you found it yet, or do you want some other person (moi!!??) to have a look at a few years for you? I have looked 26½ years for someone just now, so a few more won't hurt! Merry |

No, unfortunately there is no quicker way until Family Rellies or some other website does a full index for those years. Perhaps it would be quicker searching on a microfiche at the records office, because then you don't have to wait for the pages to load? But then if you don't live very near a records office, there is the travelling time to consider... Kate. |

My 'pooter must be quick......each page takes 5 or 6 seconds to load, so it doesn't take more than a few mins to do ten years or so....... Come on Heather...... your not still looking are you?!! Merry |
