I have come across this several times in the last few days searching through the IGI index at familysearch..... the fathers name is just listed as 'HONOUR'. Obviously, being a bit tired and ill (okay..DUMB!! lol) I first thought that this was the actual fathers name.... but I have come across it several times now. What does this mean...does anyone know? |

Never come across that !! Are these people all in the same family? Was it individual submission, or parish extraction? Jay |

There are 1060 HONOURs listed if you do a 'Search family trees' on this site - so quite a few people with it as a surname. Regs Jane |

The name appears just as I have written - in capitals with no other name at all. At first I thought it WAS a name.... but after finding it three times, I now think that maybe it has something to do with an absent father, or perhaps the father had died or was ordered to pay some sort of maintenance for his child? Maybe the father died in service to his country and so the government or army paid some sort of welfare to the child? I think I'll try and contact the site and see what they say. The most annoying thing of all is that I can no longer find the names where it said HONOUR as the fathers name.... too much research, not enough notes I guess :( |

I was asked for an example of this 'HONOUR' being the fathers name... and I remembered where and how I had come across it the first time.... At the IGI search for: Ellen Sampson PEARCE Marriage 1874 +/- 2 years England She married Willaim Dunstan WARMINGTON 9. ELLEN SAMPSON PEARCE - International Genealogical Index / BI Gender: Female Marriage: 20 JUN 1874 Saint Gluvias, Cornwall, England (as a plus to all this, I think some of my research has been made easier with the fact that a lot of my family use mothers' maiden name as a middle name...lol) Anyways, when clicking on her family details, it just lists her fathers name as HONOUR. And I haven't had a reply from the LDS yet as to what this means.... and I'm still sure that this isn't a name, but rather a reference, as I have come across it several times. |

My guess is that it is just a 'bug' in the system, but I will be very interested to hear what they say when they reply. It may be a while before you hear anything from them, though. I wonder if there is anybody who can look up one of these marriages in the parish records and see if there is anything funny about the father's name? Kate. |
