I ordered a really important Birth cert last week for despatch today the 26th. I got email today from the GRO to say wrong Mothers name so I wont be getting it. I was so looking forward to it been up early all week hoping it would come now nothing, wish they had told me earlier.

thats too bad. I hope mine don't do that! how dissapointing.

Ohh that happened to me as I put the fathers name and now I can't have it I'm sure its the right one because of other info I have. Maybe it was a different father than I thought. Did you put the mothers maiden name as well as Christian name? Zoe

I put mothers first name and maiden name trouble is We thought she had remarried so I reckon she had put her first married name on the birth cert and not her single name I wish I had rung now and discussed it with them.

didn't you keep a copy of the order? possibly you still could?(ring them)

When applying and not sure of name I just put the Christian name as you can't always be sure with the ladies Zoe

Your are quite right Zoe thats what I should have done , the problem was there were quite a few Marthas in the area at the right time so I thought I would shorten the odds .I have just emailed them hope its not too late.

Don't hold your breath!! They aren't very helpful - their system is run by a computer!!

I telephoned GRO after I realized I had put married name of my ancestor instead of single name on birth request. They would not change it for me, said they are not allowed, they can only use original request.. Irene

how ridiculous Irene as long as it was in time dont see why not, I must say for a large organisation that dont seem very flexible do they???
