I dont know how to word the heading but if a family named their children with names like Israel Ephraim Ezra etc, would they have necessarily been religious ,or was it common in the late 1700s and early 1800s . They did live outside London in Winfarthing Norfolk, whether that makes a difference or not thanks in advance |

It may be worth googling Winfarthing Val to see what history there is on line about it. Its near Diss. There was quite a movement away from the established church in Norfolk at about that time I seem to remember. Check out if theres anything about it online. But, it may just have been fashionable to name children like that. I have a lot of weird biblical names amongst my Norfolk lot. |

Thats brilliant Val. What site is that? Unfortunately the Norfolk Transcription Archive site (do you use that aswell - its fantastic for a lot of the parish records but not complete) doesnt have bmd for Winfarthing, but it does have the Hearth Tax for about 1664 with those who had enough fires to pay it! Have a look - what names are you looking for? |

Hi, Ann, sorry no Woodcocks on the 1664 Hearth Tax in Winfarthing, but do check out Norfolk Transcription Archives though there are no bmd for Winfarthing there are about 600 Woodcocks on there. |
