WOW, I feel like I just found the honey pot... The Hugh Wallis site is INCREDIBLE!! I know, I know, you've all been using it for years... I feel like Christmas is back again... I had kind of started to stagnate with census & bmd, now I'm off again... Thanks, thanks, thanks Sarah :-)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) (no, they're not double chins) well, actually they could be!!

If you google Hugh Wallis batch numbers you will find a very useful site, you can choose the right county in England or Wales and then get an alphabetical list of towns/parishes in that county with the dates covered. C numbers are baptisms and M numbers are marriages. if you click on a batch number you will get a screen where you can put in the name you are looking for, or just click to get all the results in that batch. It's a great way to find all the baptisms in a family, or all the marriages of one surname. But you need to verify the info with the original parish registers, not all parishes and dates are covered, there are several counties with poor coverage, and some batches only have (for example) female baptism extracts. nell

Thanks Lunar, That's the other mystery sorted.. though.... I've had to write down what you've told me so that I'll understand when I go looking for parish registers. I've steered clear of them so far and just used bmd & census. Maybe I'm brave enough now... :-)

lol = laugh out loud Batch numbers are to do with parish records. Every baptisum from a particular parish will have the same number or if it is a large parish every baptisum between 2 specified years will have the same number. Same principle for marriages and burials.
