i recieved an email this morning from a high street bank telling me they have locked my bank account due to numerous failed attempts to login using wrong details, i do not have an account with this bank so i sent the email direct to the bank(rather than click on the link supplied) and i did the right thing, the bank emailed me to say they haven't sent any mail to me concerning an account, so BEWARE it may just touch lucky and get someone who has an account with this bank, anything from your bank or any other ones go on the offical website and send them a email you will recieve a message within minutes,,,,MOE! |

Hi Moe, We get those quite regularly, supposedly from lots of different banks and always just delete them. My son has an online account with one particular bank, but even if the email is supposed to come from them, we check very carefully what they are saying before taking any notice of the email. If they say anything like... you need to enter your security or account details... just bin it. Kath. x |

There seem to be a lot of these around at the moment - Halifax, NatWest and Abbey seem to be the worst affected - like you I don't bank with any of the above, so just delete them every time you get them, don't even open them - sometimes they don't even need you to reply to be able to read your hard drive!!!!! These people are the scum of this earth out to con some poor sole. I wish there was a site we could just send all the con emails to. If this happened I am sure we would not get so many. Most banks have a scam email site that you can send these emails to and I have done that in the past. My main pain is the ones that come from people that have found accounts with lots of money in that they want me to pay into my account...............yes I am sure to do that. I just delete and sometimes add their eamail address to my block emails. Regards Irene |

I get loads of these bank ones; and the money-sharing ones; and the lottery winner ones. None of them seem to have had viruses, they are just phishing for your bank details. |

Moe If you have a good virus protector and firewall you should be OK, just keep your eyes open for anything that doesn't look 'right' if you know what I mean. Looby |

I had one from Wanadoo. I was in process of switching bank accounts so I called them. Good job I did as it was a hoax. Ellen X |

Also beware of the PayPal scam! We had yet another one last night saying that someone had been trying to access the count from a foreign address(we knew it WAS a scam from before) We put 'mickey mouse' info in and eventually came to a page which actually asked for all our bank details along with PIN numbers and mother's maiden name! Hope no-one falls for this - we're always being warned not to give out PIN's but it's likely that some people will do it! Cheers Allie |

Im getting two or three a day from Barclays! I go through spates of several a day from pay pal or ebay. I delete everyone of them. A bank would not contact you like this. Note most of these scams start 'Dear Customer' - not a name, because they are sending out thousands a time. Ignore them all. Re ebay - they have an extra security measure now. If you get a mail supposedly from them, ignore it, go to your account on ebay and any mails they send you are duplicated on there. So no need to open any on your email. I also get about 4 a day from Nigerian diplomats widows or Phillipines or African or Arabians asking me to help get money out of a swiss bank account or something. Its incredible people could fall for this rubbish, but they do. The cleverest one, when I first got it, was an ebay scam. You get a mail from someone saying you havent sent the item they bought, or can the item you are selling be sent to Utah or somewhere. When I first got one, and I have never in my life sold anything on there, on the mail there was a link to see the item. Curiosity got too much for me - I wanted to see what I had supposedly sold. I clicked on the link and got to an authentic looking ebay home page where I was asked to enter my details - I was actually half way putting my name in when the penny dropped. I had been directed to a scam site where no doubt they would take my name and password then ask me to enter details of my pay pal account for verification. Scum these people. |
