Hi go to MY Computer from start menu.then Network& Internet Connections, then Advanced,& scan down the boxes to the Java boxes & click on Java logging enabled. If that one doesnt work then do the same but tick the other java box which will then need restart, dont know which one you will need as both of mine arent ticked'!!. If neither work then go back and untick both boxes.and you will be to square one I,m afraid Shirley

I dont seem to have those boxes. I have one that says Java sun and a little icon that looks like a hot cup of coffee. It says next to it Use Java 2x1.42 for applet (requires restart) This is already ticked. Anyone got any ideas? Margaret

Margaret. Sun Java is the right one. Microsoft Java is being phased out and they recommend the SUN one ( they own Java). You might want to install the latest version as this should sort out any problems. http://www.java(.)com/en/download/manual.jsp There is also a tool to verify the installation. Bob

Hi Bob I've done that and verified it. Its says its working fine, but the disc still wont install. This is the message I get. Your browser does not support JavaScript! You will not be able to browse the disc pages with JavaScript disabled. Don't worry, though! If you're using Internet Explorer 3 or higher, enable JavaScript on your browser. Windows 98 and higher should come with a supported version of Internet Explorer Any more ideas? Margaret

After installing Java, did you try rebooting the computer? Judy

Hi Judy Yes, have done that more than once. The thing is, its not just this computer. It happens the same on the PC we have as well. Is it the discs? they are the ones free with Your Family Tree mag. I have 3 of them from different issues and none of them will play. I mentioned it to my hubby, he is in hospital at the moment so not here to look at the computer, he says Java is def. installed as he has used things that need it. It does say Java Script. Is that something different? Margaret

Just thought of something else you should check - a setting in your CONTROL PANEL. !. Click on START. 2. Click on CONTROL PANEL. 3. From the list click on INTERNET OPTIONS. 4. A screen with labeled tabs will appear, click on ADVANCED. 5. Scroll down to the subheading SECURITY. 6. Make sure the following have checks: - Allow active content from CDs to run on my computer. - Allow active content to run on my computer. - Allow software to run or install even if the signature is invalid. 7. Click on APPLY and OK. Judy
