This woman is driving me mad! Alice E Hitchman, born 1868, Birmingham. Cannot find her death. Waited eagerly for Ancestry to load BMD's and was sure I would find it. I know I have to keep looking as I have only looked ALL through 60's,50's and 40's!!!!! Will try 30's today. My mother says she recollects meeting her when she was a child, so that would have been in the 50's. But I am beginning to think she couldn't have. I have found someone in 1963, but the age is wrong by about 6 years. Given all the glaring mistranscriptions I have come across so far searching the BMD's on ancestry over the past couple of days, I'm not holding out much hope. Anyhow, just having a moan. I'll get back to it. Thanks for listening!!!!! Any words of encouragement would be gratefully received - LOL Mandy XXX

oh no, It's Hitchman! Sorry it was a stress induced typo! Thank you ALice. Not expecting anyone to help me look, I'm going to find her if it is the last thing I do!!! I have decided to start from her birth again and check that all details I have on her are correct in the hope that the death I have found in 1963 is her. Any other tips, anyone?

Don't forget that ages given at death are frequently wrong, the information is only as good as the informants knowledge. Jennifer

And don't discount a death just because it isn't in the registration distric you expect. My great grandad lived in the same place his whole life but is death was registered in a diferent district because the hospital he died in was in another district although it was only about 10 miles away. It took me ages to realise i HAD found the correct reference. Sam x

Hitchman is her married name.

I searched for months to find one lady's death, being sure it must have occurred as her son, my father-in-law, was brought up by relatives from a young age. After trawling 10 years+ on 1837 and exhausting all other routes such as hospitals and asylums, I eventually found a 3rd marriage - and 2 years later her death under that new surname. She was 46. Good luck & don't give up!

Do you have Mr Hitchman's death cert?? If you don't know who died first, you could check the electoral roll for his usual address from his death cert, to see if she was there then..... (Suppose you will say he was killed in WW1 :o((.....) Hope she didn't shack up with someone??! Merry

Thanks Merry, I will look into those leads. Maybe she did shack up with someone! She was a right old battleaxe, by all accounts. Not a pleasant woman at all. So I am not going to give her the satisfaction of hiding from me!!!!!! It wouldn't suprise me if she was still alive, jsut to be awkward!!!! LOL
