Hi all Can anyone access an origional image of the 1881 census for devon. The reason Im asking is that I think there is a misstranscription thats creating alot of confusion. The person causing the problem is William Terry born in 1801 Kingston Devon, according to the transcription he is listed as Grandfather to John Triggs the head of the household. Which is unlikely as Johns wife was Elizabeth Terry, I suspect that 'Grandfather' is a misstranscription and if anyone can have a look Id be realy thankful. The location is Kingston Devon and the Reference is RG11 Piece Folio 2184/51 Page 17 Yours Chris

It does say grandfather. In 1851 he had a daughter Elizabeth aged 16, would she be the wife of the householder in 1881? Would the family call him grandfather because they have a child? Heather

Hi Yes it say Grandfather. He is obviously Elizabeth's grandfather. (They would have to put something down and just didnt have room or couldnt be bothered to put grandfathre in law...lol). Good for you..at least you know Elizabeth's grandfather was called Williams and when and where he was born. Suznne

I know this has nothing to do with this thread, and I should probably start a new one. But is there an easier way to find someone through bmd. I have one couple in my tree that put their kids in to care and then just vanish. I have search 10 years for deaths under the fathers name, the same for the mother getting remarried under both her maiden name and married name, and so far I have found nothing!.

Keiley perhaps mum died and dad couldn't look after the children, have you looked for a death for mum? Perhaps you'd get more replies if you started a separate thread. Heather

Yeah I know. I just seem to be looking forever. I did start a thread a few days back, but the general advice was to just keep looking!!!... I just wondered whist I had the attention of someone else, if they had any better techniques etc.

Keiley,There's always a chance that the name had an alternative spelling and that's why you can't see it. Heather
