Went on 192.Com to look for phone number, and received an e-mail telling me I should use this site for tracing family trees, like 1837 but free. Off to work in ten minutes but hope this is useful to you all. jennifer.

Unfortunately, to view records you have to buy credits. Its such a shame that so many companies charge a fee, its had to know who to subscribe to. I personally like the idea of freebmd. I know that its far from complete, but is worth its weight in gold - so much so that I have recently volunteered my services and am now a transcriber to help people like me who are frustrated with paying for different websites etc.

No as I said I paid nothing - I typed in 192 on google - got on site 192.com looked up the number I wanted and that was it. Today received e-mail and I had a look and was checking births free- really must dash to work or will be late - back on 9.30 ish p.m. hope you enjoy.

Have tried accessing bmd records at 192 but although they give a list the same as 1837 you still have to buy credits 'from as little as 25p each' to access actual records, so it would seem they are in fact more expensive than most of theother sites.

Strange I just checked my g/g grandads birth charged me nothing. try using the site for a number and see if you get the e-mail-really gone to work now.

you get 10 free numbers on 192 but have to pay for the premium service which I think includes electoral roles and such

I just tried a search for a rellie who married in 1860. I did asearch using his name and dates 1860 =/- 1 year I got a heap of possibles, each one needs a fee to view. So like other sites the search is free (we MAY have a record that you would like to see!). I am far too mean to find out if it is a record that I might want to see or whether it's a page of records where the surname has the same first letter as mine! Pete

When I looked on it a couple of weeks ago I looked at the charges, far more than 1837. So if you are going to buy credits be sure to work out how much each image will cost to view.
