Nice site to find a relative's photo, search by surname or browse by regiment. You have to buy them, though :-) http://www(.)ww1photos(.)com Ian

Probably many of these photographs are taken from De Ruvigny's Roll of Honour 1914-1918, which holds 7000 photographs and 25,000 biographies of servicemen who were killed. It's published in 5 parts by Naval and Military Press - who have an eBay store where it sells for £75. As such, I think it's a bit rich of this site to charge £2.50 per photo, though I guess you're also paying for the indexing work and search facility. Wouldn't most major libraries hold De Ruvigny, though? I'd recommend http://www(.)silentcities(.)co(.)uk as a similar website.

Personally, I don't think £2.50 for a photo is bad at all. Much less than it would cost me to drive to my nearest library 27 miles away and then pay for a photocopy :-) Better value than any medal card I've paid £3.50 for as well! Just a pity none of mine are there. Ian

Ian, Great website which I enjoyed seeing but beware the bit where you can upload your own photos. That section is absolutely PLAGUED with pop up adverts inviting you to click this and click that and offering to fix registry errors - shame because it's a great idea and a nicely put together website - shame it is spoilt by those pop ups in the Visitors Public Album Section - in that bit PROCEED WITH CARE! I have Windows XP Service Pack 2 with built in Pop Up Blocker but still those sneaky pop ups were getting through! Cheers, Horatia

Ah, never tried that part but thanks for the heads up. I hate those things. It's just dropped a notch in my estimation then! Cheers Ian
