I note on some information to which I have misplaced census Insitution No: Vessel No: ? Does that mean people have left the UK on a ship and census taken there and or in a insitution? |

Hi Emma I have a couple like this when my relies were serving in the navy. I used Ancestry and clicked on the enumeration district to find where the ship was anchored on census night |

ED, institution, or vessel: ED stands for ennumeration district- so the area in which their house /town was was. institution would be just that Vessel would be yes, a vessel, But would then have been named (usually). what is your example - see if we can work it out, then you'll know for sure |
