My gg grandmother for some reason put two of her children in to care and placed the eldest my grandad at her mothers. I have been looking for ages now for a death certificate for her husband my gg grandad (thinking maybe he died, and perhaps she couldnt cope etc). Or a new marriage for her, but I cant find anything, and the records are endless!. Is there a more efficent way to search. How would you go about it? This is driving me mad now

I have my gg grandmothers marriage certificate. She married a Charles Pocock 1918 in Bedwelty. My grandad was born 1920, and his two other siblings 1923 and 1925. My gg grandmothers maiden name was Rowena Rancombe. Many Thanks

This is her with her family in 1901? View Record Elizabeth Rancomte abt 1867 Brill, Buckinghamshire, England Wife Abertillery Monmouthshire View Record Marcus Rancomte abt 1896 Abertillery, Monmouthshire, Wales Son Abertillery Monmouthshire View Record Rowena Rancomte abt 1898 Abertillery, Monmouthshire, Wales Daughter Abertillery Monmouthshire View Record William J Rancomte abt 1868 Bath, Somerset, England Head Abertillery Monmouthshire I have viewed the orignal and can't for the life of me work out what her father did, but the name certainly is Rancombe. and I think this is Charles (his father was a Coalhewer) Teverton is of course, Tiverton View Record James Jonson abt 1881 Trowbridge, Somerset, England Boarder Abertillery Monmouthshire View Record Charles Pocock abt 1898 Teverton, Somerset, England Son Abertillery Monmouthshire View Record George Pocock abt 1836 Teverton, Somerset, England Father Abertillery Monmouthshire View Record Gsoge Pocock abt 1896 Clembeller, Monmouthshire, Wales Son Abertillery Monmouthshire View Record Henry Pocock abt 1870 Arerton, Somerset, England Head Abertillery Monmouthshire View Record Lizzie Pocock abt 1873 Cumbelly, Monmouthshire, Wales Wife Abertillery Monmouthshire View Record Rodie Pocock abt 1893 Cwnhtery, Monmouthshire, Wales Daughter Abertillery Monmouthshire View Record Sarah Pocock abt 1892 Cumbelly, Monmouthshire, Wales Daughter Abertillery Monmouthshire View Record Willaim Whalley abt 1883 Trowbridge, Somerset, England Boarder Abertillery Monmouthshire Will keep looking - but thought this might prove useful. Of course Charles could well have had an accident or developed an illness which prevented him working - and which will be more difficult to track down than a death. Victoria

Thanks for that Victoria. Didnt think about him having an accident, but as far as I know the kids never came out of care. I also know that the kids were put in to care in Harpenden Hertfordshire. Perhaps they moved there? Thanks keiley

I would certainly think that there must have been a good reason for the children to have been put into care there. Living, as I do, in Canberra, had my children gone into care, I would not imagine them being sent to Perth for example. Perhaps there was, at the very least, a family connection with Harpendon. Do you know when the children were put into care?

Do you have all three childrens birth certs? Just a thought....the reason I ask is my ggrandmother put her children into care, her husband died during WW1, they had 4 children by this time, but ggrandmother went on to have several more illegitimately - at least one of which was given my ggrandfathers name as the father, which he most definitely could not have been. This must have come to light, the birth cert of the first illegitmate child has the father's name crossed out, and I think her parish relief could have been stopped. With no money and no way of taking care of her children she gave them up for several years. Like you, the eldest went to family, the younger 3/4 went into a boys home in Surrey. Perhaps you could look for the death of Charles Pocock before the last child was born, rather than after. Sam
