PLEASE PLEASE HELP. AFTER NEARLY 12 MONTHS OF TRYING FINALLY GOT CORRECT DEATH AND BIRTH CERTIFICATE FOR MY GGRANDFATHER. SHOWS HIS FATHERS NAME AS WALSHAW RHODES AND SHOWS HIS MOTHERS AS CAROLINE. FINE I THOUGHT. CHECKED CENCUS RECORDS FOR 1901 AND THERE THEY WERE STARING ME IN MY FACE. PROBLEM NOW IS MY GGGRANDFATHER, WHOM I WAS SO PROUD OF FINDING APPEARS ON SOME AND NOT OTHERS. FOUND HIS MARRIAGE TO CAROLINE BUT CAN FIND NO RECORD OF HIS BIRTH. SURELY WITH A NAME LIKE WALSHAW HE CANT HIDE, CAN HE. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW I COULD FIND OUT IF HE CHANGED HIS NAME AT ALL?

I wojld think more likely to mis-transcribed. Fancy giving your son the same name!

Well, for a start his first name is mistranscribed as Walsham for the 1891 census on ancestry. My guess is that he will also turn out to be mistranscribed on 1871, 1861 and 1851, but will have to do a bit of searching to find him! He should have been born about 1846 in Bradford - have you tried the GRO indexes on 1837 online (for example) or just FreeBMD? Kate.
