Id be very grateful for help on this. I downloaded the will of my GGFx2 and a long and very difficult to read one it was. After struggling myself, Sarah kindly managed to read it and sent it to me in Word format. I had a trial copy of word at that time which has now lapsed. I opened the word doc so that I could copy it to my FT2005 but I cant! I cant email to myself, I cant copy and paste it. Is there anyway please to copy this to works.

I've pm'd you a link to Microsoft to download a word viewer. Don't know if thats what you already had. But worth a go. Diane

I can actually see the doc Diane, but it wont allow me to paste and copy it or even mail it to myself to copy. What a pain. I suppose thats the catch when they let you do free trials of programs. Sarah must have struggled so hard to read this and its 2 A4 pages. I think I shall just have to print it (which it will allow) and then type it into works.

Which version of Works do you have? There's a program here... http://www.microsoft*com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=b9e11e83-f51b-4977-b572-8c042df802c1&displaylang=en

Many thanks, Ive started ploughing through typing it now - blimey its a big will. Ive not read it so deeply before, so its doing me some good. I am amazed that Sarah was happy not only to read this thing for me, which honestly looked like hieroglyphics but then bless her, typed all this out. Over two pages of tightly typed A4, with no paras or spaces. Bless her.

I'm not sure I can help but I seem to remember that when I changed over (a long time ago) when I tried to open it (or close it), I was given an option to 'open as' or save as' 'word' or 'works' I'm sorry this is vague but I know I did one or the other and it converted the document into the new format and everything worked o.k. Perhaps you could have a look if you get either of these options? Dea x

Heather Report 11 Jan 2006 10:35

No Dea, it wont do that. All the options come up shaded out, so you cant do anything with it except print. I am half way through typing this document now. I will have a go at downloading the programs people have kindly suggested for all the other docs. I didnt realise this would happen when I did the trial. But they want so much for the proper program and I didnt need all the bits on it. Many thanks.

If you can print it, could you then scan it in and put it into your FTM that way??

Hi Heather, I've had a similar problem, but in reverse. Sent contacts e-mail with attachment of family group charts which have been in Word, which came out as gobbledigook in Works. After several attempts, I think I scanned them individually and sent them as jpegs, but of course that meant the text couldn't be edited by the other party. Isn't it a pain and SO frustrating?? Jay

Thiis is what the Works Help said when I asked how to open a Word document in Works. Hope this helps. Open a document created in another program You can open a document in Works, even if it was originally created in another program. When you open a file that was created in another program, you might see slight differences. For example, if the file contains formatting that is not supported in Works, that formatting might not be preserved. Works can open files from many other software programs. To see if the file you want to open is supported by Works, check the file formats listed in the Files of type box in the Open dialog box (File menu). 1 On the File menu, click Open. 2 In the Files of type box, click the down arrow, and then click the type of file you want to open. You may have to scroll to display all of the file types. 3 If the file you want is listed, double-click the file name to open it. - or - If the file you want is not listed, switch to the drive or folder where the file is located. How? 1 In the Look in box, click the down arrow. 2 To switch to another drive, click the letter of the drive you want. For example, if you want to switch to your floppy drive that is designated as A, click A: in the list. 3 Double-click the folder you want. 4 Double-click the name of the file. Tip If the program used to create the file is not listed in the Open dialog box, try saving it in a format that is supported by both Works and the other program. If the programs don't share a file format, you might have to save the file as text (.txt) or Rich Text Format (.rtf) before you can open it in Works. Regards, Carol

ooh dear....it would seem you are having problems with ''my'' will!!! Oh Heather, if you had sent it back to me, I could have turned it into any sort of file you wanted :O(( Maybe all that typing will help you to digest the contents?? (not literally, I hasten to add!!) Have you ever thought of treading grapes in a bowl under the desk whilst typing?? Must be good for those leg pains, I would have thought.......? Merry (alias Sarah x)

Sorry guys, been out getting the roll bar (or something) done on my car. The guy said it would take an hour. So I thought, well I can wander round shops for an hour (forgetting it was half day closing). So then the guy says sorry now its 2.5 hours. How bloomin long can you nurse a cappachino guys? I made it half an hour a cup full. Thanks for all the suggestions, you are such a brilliant lot. You always come up with answers and support, for which Im so grateful. Not a bad idea about the grapes Merry. I was thinking along the lines of a pedalo pedals so I could generate at least enough electricity for the pc, eh?
