That seems a long time Julie - I know they do take ages as I normally leave mine to run overnight but yours is VERY long! Has it not been done for ages? Maybe that could be why. Sam x |

Which Windows Operating System have you got? Folks when you post a query please state this because instructions vary depending on your OS (Operating System) If you have queries on e-mail, please state whether you are using Outlook Express, Incredimail, AOL or whatever. There are so many different programmes that it is difficult to post answers without this vital information/ Cheers Horatia |

I think when I had my old computer it used to be a lot quicker if you put your pc into safe mode first. |

When I first Defragged it took ages. Then I turned off the screensaver. Every time I had touched the mouse it had started the defrag all over again. |

I agree with above.......I always put mine in safe mode first. To put in safe mode: Restart computer and when it is about to reboot hold down the Control key. This should take you to a screen that gives you the option to choose which mode you want. Select safe mode and hit the return key. Once your screen is up and running start the defrag process. I word of warning: I did mine only yesterday and it kept getting to 10% and then restarting the defrag process and then it got to 35% and restarted again. I had to sit with my poor old computer and keep the mouse moving to reassure the computer I was still there and low and behold it comleted the whole process. A bit of TLC and your computer will respond. (I hope) Suzanne |

And after you have done it, schedule it on your puter to do it on a regular basis. |

If you have older versions of Windows pre XP (98 or Me) then I would suggest you do a Disk Cleanup first, followed by a Scan Disk THEN follow up with a Defrag. Don't have a Screen Saver running. Best done in Safe Mode for PC operating systems prior to XP. You should find Disk Cleanup and Scan Disk in the same place on your PC that you find the Defrag facility. Cheers, Horatia |
