Hi Tony A & G Taylor must have been big firm as they have studios all over the place. The Wigan ones are: 25a King Street, Wigan 1881-1882 78 Standishgate, Wigan 1890 Moothall Chambers, Wallgate, Wigan 1903-1905 2 Market Street, Wigan 1905 Martin The book is Lancashire Professional Photographers 1840-1940 by Gillian Jones. If you google for it, it comes up with an address to buy it from. I have not seen it in any bookshops - but maybe specialist ones might have it. Tina

Hi Tony 1. James Millard: 118 Millgate, Wigan 1871-1882 Scholes Bridge, Wigan 1873-1898 Market Street, Wigan 1879-1898 1 Douglas Road, Wigan 1890-1892 At a guess the 'opposite Market Hall' would probably be the one in Market Street. There are also entries for James Millard and Company (abbreviated to '& Co' but this darn site would not let me put 'co' unless it is in inverted commas!) in Wigan, but since you did not mention the '& Co' I assume it does not say that on your photos. 2. There is no Richard Lee, but there is a Richard Leigh, West Houghton 1876 3. John Cooper Harrogate Street, Wigan 1863-1864 15 Harrogate Street, Wigan 1865-1866 4. Nothing for J Pyatt or J Leigh Tina

For Christmas I have had a book which lists most of the Lancashire professional photographers from 1840 to 1940, giving the addresses they operated from and the years they were there. I have an album full of photographs of people who I am trying to put names to and this is helping me greatly in working out who they might be. So, if you have any photographs of people from that period, with the name/address of a Lancashire photographer on them, if you send me the details of the photographer I will look it up and tell you the range of dates during which the photograph would most probably have been taken.
