Hi all, In chasing up my elusive paternal g/mother I came accross this :- From the England and Wales Civil Registration Index: 1837-1983 Concerning marriages. (On Ancestry). View Andrews, Willie Job 1891 December. Marriage. Lewes, East Record Sussex View Bennett, Sarah 1891 December. Marriage. Portsea Island Record Hampshire View Tutt, Edith Emily 1891 December. Marriage. Lewes, East Record Sussex View Tutt, Frank 1891 December. Marriage. Lewes, East Record Sussex. -------------------------------------------------------------------- My interest is in Sarah Bennett, and my question is, if the marriages were in, or near, Lewes, East Sussex, why would it have Portsea Island on her 'line' ?. I am assuming that Frank and Edith Tutt were related and having a double wedding, in which case Sarah would have married Frank and Edith would have married Willie Andrews, OR, the 'Tutt,s' may have been cousins and just 'keeping it in the family' !! Anyway, your thoughts on the Portsea Island bit , if you would. Thought I had better ask before you all go off and get sloshed, lol. Happy New Year to you all, regards, Mick Davie.

Hi Pippa, I see what you mean. I didn,t type it out like that. May-be I,ll have another brandy and try again. (Perhaps I had best leave it till the celebrations are over), Cheers, Mick Davie.

I don't see how Sarah could have married any of them if Portsea Island is a different reg district to Lewes.

Mick In answer to the first bit - GR always scrunches the first posting in a new thread. Don't know why. So what you have to do is type it all out with paragraphs in, then put on the top bit 'see below' and cut and delete the rest of the message. Then click on your own thread, click 'Add reply' and paste your message which will then appear properly paragraphed. In response to 2nd bit about Portsea I am off to investigate! nell

You are right - find Sarah Bennett marriages, click on the one in Portsea Island and up pop 3 folk who married in Lewes. I think this must be a transcription error. Are you sure this is YOUR Sarah Bennett? If she married in 1891 she would appear with her husband and her married name on 1901 census. nell

Hi Helen little Nel, So, it,s not the Brandy then !!. I think you must be right, a transcription error. Re Sarah Bennett, No, I,m not sure if it is 'my' Sarah. Apart from gleaning that she was born in 1875 at Sholing Southampton, and picking her out, with her family, as she grew up, (1881/91 census), I can find no trace of her. It would appear that she and my g/father did not marry although they had five children. The eldest b1898. It was suggested by a couple of other GC members that she may have been married already, thus my g/parents could not wed, it would also explain why I can find no Death record for her in the name of Davie or Bennett.. She had my father in 1911. A few years later, in 1917, when my g/father died, the children were taken in by neighbours. I have always believed that my g/mother died tween 1911 and 1917. So, I was in the middle of going through all of the likely Sarah Bennetts to see if I could find a previous marriage. Thanks for your help. All the best for the New Year. Pippa Doll..............I,ll have (yet) another Brandy and do that. Cheers Mick D.
