Hi Sue - The witnesses on the marriage certificate for Eliza King and George Foulser in 1876 are 'Harry King - this is as written. Either father Henry/harry or a brother Henry/harry. I would think most likely her father Henry. probably Margaret Foulser - a relative of George I should think but not sure in what capacity i.e mother or sister as haven't got that far yet. Rita

Hi Sue and Jess Yes, that is my Eliza Foulser etc in the 1881. The John Thomas, b,1881 is (was) my grandad. Jess - I am a bit confused regarding Eliza King in the 1871. Does it mean that Eliza King was visiting her sister Harriet Osborne, nee King, and her family on census night? The Bethnal Green connection is quite reasonable. In which case what does 'Wife' refer to on the line for Eliza? Could it mean that she was married to a King and subsequently married a Foulser?. If so this doesn't accord with the info on her marriage certificate as a Spinster (not widow), and a King marrying a Foulser. I thought that if I could get references to Henry/Harry then I could find out where Eliza was born (and possibly get her birth certificate), and also whether she had any siblings. My aunt has mentioned a Lou /Lew/(Louis/Lewis?) King who was related to Eliza but I don't in what capacity. I should think that Lou might be on the 1891 and 1901 but haven't looked yet on the 1901 yet. My aunt is now 90 and her memory is not very reliable. I really, really want to track down Henry/Harry as he seems to be my only way forward, so to speak. Thanks for your help so far. Rita

Trust me to muck-up Eliza would of course have been a Foulser in the 1881 census. Henry/Harry would of course remain King. The death ref. is in Mary 1888 not 1889. I swear it was not the Champagne that caused the fingers and brain not to engage properly. Rita

I would like a look-up for a Henry Alfred/Harry King in the 1851/61/71/81 censuses please. The only information I have is that he had a daughter Eliza King probably born ca 1860. Eliza married in 1876 to a George Foulser therefore presumably she was on the 1881 census. Henry Alfred’s occupation is given as Butcher on Eliza’s marriage certificate. I would hope to find Henry/Harry in the 1851/61/71 probably in the Lambeth, but more likely Rotherhithe/Bermondsey/Southwark areas of London. I suppose it is possibly that he lived over the water in the East end of London at some point. To complicate matters the family was supposed to have originated in Diss, Norfolk. but I don’t know at what point they came to London. Not much to go on I’m afraid other than I have a GRO ref for a death of a Henry Alfred King aged 89 in Lambeth in 1889. Rita
