I can't get the info I need on CD & getting to the relevant records office isn't easy so fiche is my only option to look for what I need.

Lots of Family History socs sell records on Fiche - all sorts of things - PR's, MI's, census (but prob not much call for those these days!!) etc etc, though many are doing more on CD now, but they are usually quite a bit more expensive. Also sometimes County Record Offices sell copy fiche - the very first ones we ever owned came from Staffs CRO and the paperwork to cover the copyright was beyond belief!! To be honest, I wouldn't buy a fiche reader today unless it was VERY cheap and I had the space for it.......only because there are other ways of resourcing the info (like CD's) and you would have to offset the cost of the reader.......When I bought mine there were no alternatives!! Another option would be to buy the fiche you want and then take it to your library to view it. (Obviously ask them first and show them what you have brought when you get there - you don't want to be arrested for apparent theft!!)....... Merry

assuming one got hold of a reader, how do you get hold of the micro fiche's? Bob

Also try your local library - I just missed the bargain of the century when my teeny-weeny-library-in-a-Scout-Hut sold off one for £10 - no-one ever used it apparently, and they replaced it with a pooter. Olde Crone

Also contact local large stationery suppliers......not ones who sell to the public - ones that supply offices and such. They will sell new fiche readers, but should be willing to tell you who is around to sell secondhand. Also look under ''Microfilm'' in the Yellow Pages.....again, even if they only sell new, they will know who deals in secondhand. We paid £30 for ours, about 5 years ago. Merry
