I'm trying to find Curtain St, Shoreditch. Does anyone know which of the enumeration districts it would come under on Ancestry? |

Do you know which part of Shoreditch it is in?? There are these different parts of Shoreditch in 1851 and I have added the number of Enumeration Districts to each one: Haggerstone East 19 Haggerstone West 32 + workhouse Holywell 21 Hoxton New Town 30 + workhouse Hoxton Old Town 24 St Leonard 20 + lunatic asylum So, if you can find out which area it comes under, you would then need to view the ''Description of Enumeration District'' page for each district until you find the street - then view the district. Do you know where to find that info? Merry |

Thanks Zoe..... so you will need to view the 20odd Description pages for Holywell. Goodluck - I looked at the first two - couldn't see Curtain anything and the writing isn't good. Also lots of crossings out and says ''Revised August 1851'', which was 4 monthe AFTER the census....so not sure what was going on there!! Have fun! Merry |

Thanks Zoe and Merry. I had started with the 20 something districts in St Leonards, then wondered if maybe it was in Hackney!! Yes, it's Curtain Rd! St James parish I believe. My Nye family were there in 1850 when Marian was born . The other children are Christopher (1844), & George (1846) with parents George and Mary. He was possibly an ironmonger. Maybe they have been horrendously mistranscribed, but searching for a 'George' in Shoreditch is just not an option!!! Lol! Will now plow through the 20+ Holywell districts instead! Thanks. |

Merry!!!!!!!!! How DO you do it???? Yes, that's them! I was searching for Christopher thinking that with the more unusual name he'd be easier to find! I'd tried Marian too, but had had no luck! She was just recorded as 10 in the 1861 so that fits. I'd been searching Middlesex as the birthplace! Doh! And a Rebecca too! That was the name of George Jrs oldest daughter too, my Gt Grandmother! I even have a photo of her! :-) The family were fancy box makers in 1861 but George Sr had died by then, so I only had George Jr's marriage cert to go on which said his dad was an ironmonger! Thank you so very very much!! :-)) |
