Thanks for that Jim. I'm looking for William Matthews - possibly recorded Mathews, born Warwickshire Whichford 1834. He was a dairyman, but he is no where to be found. I know he was in the workhouse in 1901 and thought he might be there in 1881 - clutching at straws! nell |

Can't see him yet in 1881, but as he's in Camberwell in 1871 (and Married!) I would have expected him to be there in 1881 too.......still looking........ Merry |

Merry Thank you for looking.. I've got the blessed man in every census from 1841-1901 EXCEPT 1881. As you say, since he's in camberwell 10 years before and 10 years afterwards, that's where he should be in 1881... I know his wife died the year before the census, so its possible that his domestic circumstances changed and he moved somewhere else, but where???!!!! I've also tried Matthews/Mathews and all Williams born around 1831 in Warwickshire! nell |

I think single people were much more likely to be missed off then families. If he was a lodger somewhere they might have forgotten him, and in a busy place.........frustrating though.....keep going back to have another look! Merry |

Merry That's cheered me up no end! Mind you if I found him in 1881 I don't suppose it will tell me much more - I know when and where he was born and what he did for a living and that his wife was dead! nell |
