Thanks all. Helen - thanks for that - this is something I was asked to look up for a friend, and didn't want to put my foot in it or anything, so will tread carefully before giving her the info - don't want her to think I know more than I should!!!!! Regards Looby

Hopefully these are the parents (?) Terry Swaine & Patricia Haynes married in the March qtr of 1977 ref Chesterfield vol 6 p 290. Possible Susan was registered before the wedding, then the certificate changed after the wedding. This is done so that the father gets proper rights etc. One of my umpth x great grandmothers was b on 1st May 1847, her parents married on the 2nd June 1847, and registered baby 4 days later, so officially she wasn't illegitimate! Loo, if you look at the whole page on 1837online there are quite a few with this mark next to it, SUZUKI<SWALE<SWALLOW>SWAN(2)MARSHALL(at the bottom)i have never seen pages with so many page numbers changed so this could be a error regarding the registrar rather than a hidden code ,,,,,,,,,MOE Back again ...i think the reason for the letters is susan is also registered under her mothers maiden name of HAYNES..TWICE so maybe the parents wern't married mum got the baby in her name and then dad did it in his??is this possible... MOE!

Is this one of the type written pages? If so it could be the amended entry referring to the June quarter was originally added at the foot of the page but was inserted in its 'correct' place when the index was retyped.

The second one means that for some reason, the (amended?) registration is to be found in June 1977.

Surely if it were registered late it would be a written entry at the bottom of the page, not two entries one below the other? Trudy

Is it possible her birth was registered late? Is there any entry for her in the following quarter as well? Haven't got any 1837 online credits left myself so I can't check. Kate.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me please. I have a young lady born March Qtr 1977 in Derby. On the image on 1837 there are two entries for her, as follows: Swaine, Susan Elizabeth Haynes Derby Vol 6, Page 1454 and then what looks like ‘S’ Swaine, Susan Elizabeth Haynes Derby Vol 6, page J77 Does anyone know what reason there might be for these two entries to appear one below the other? I am totally confused. Many thanks Looby PS. I may not get back tonight, but I will respond to any replies in the morning – thanks again.
