I have been trying to get in touch with the York Probate Office today. Their phone does not work and emails just bounce. I wonder if my contact details are out of date? Tel 01904 666 777 email [email protected] Anyone had similar or got different contact details? Ian

Perhaps theres something up with their system. Have you tried reporting it to BT and getting them to check the line?

Try 0845 3020900. This is the General Enquiries line for Probate etc. Monday to Friday 9pm to 5pm (Calls charged at Local Rate) When I made an enquiry at Leeds last week they gave me an up to date leaflet, but also said the York Probate Sub Registry was not open to the public. (Bet they are snowed under with queries from Family Historians like us!) Regards Ray Whincup

Just tried that tel number Ray. Most unhelpful - said they were to do with taxation and nothing to do with wills. Ian

Sorry Ian re Telephone number, but the number I gave you was on top of Two Page A4 leaflet (PA4) Headed DIRECTORY OF PROBATE REGISTRIES AND INTERVIEW VENUES. Next line says 'For general enquiries please telephone the Probate & Inheritance Tax Help-line Mon to Fri 9am to 5pm 0845 3020900. Just trying to help. Never used the number myself. Leeds District Probate Registry number is 0113 3863540, they may be able to advise re York situation. York contact details are shown as Tel no. 01904 666777 which you have. Address Castle Chambers, Clifford Street, York, Y01 9RG Ray Whincup
