I am trying to trace the maiden name of Elizabeth Clara Perch married to James Perch-both born 1811 in Peckham, Kent . They had children-Francis James born 1836 West Peckham or Wrotham,Fanny born 1845 in Buckland,Kent, Mary born 1848 in Greater Broughton and Emma born 1842 in Peckham.

A tricky one because there isn't much Kent stuff on the IGI. I wonder if West Peckham is included in the parish records that are available online on the Medway council's website? I'll just have a look and get back to you... Kate.

If Kate cant help, you can always buy one of the kids birth certs for the name.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look as though West Peckham or East Peckham or any of the other places you mention are included on there. Bother. You may have to look at the parish registers, then, unless somebody has a marriage index... Oh, silly me, of course you can get a birth cert for one of the kids, I didn't look carefully at their dates of birth... Kate.

This might be useful, from the 1861 census: Henry Gibbins abt 1807 Minster Thranet Head Denton Kent Susanah Gibbins abt 1804 Barham Wife Denton Kent Frances Frend abt 1807 Barham Sister Denton Kent Elizabeth Perch abt 1809 Barham Sister Denton Kent Thomas Perch abt 1853 Tunbridge, Kent, England Nephew Denton Kent Frances Frend is unmarried, so maybe that was Elizabeth's maiden name, or maybe it was Gibbins (depends on whether she was Henry or Susannah's sister!). The birth cert of one of the kids will confirm. My guess is that the 3 girls were all Frend's (all born in Barham). Richard

How can I trace a maiden name. Usually I get a cert for one of the children, but the children of this couple were all born before 1837.

Lynda. If you can find them on any census ,the you will get an idea of where they were born ,then its parish records. Have you tried family search site tho, as they may be listed on there . Shirley

Lynda .Have you tried emailing the local family history society of districts in Warwickshire. I belong to the Medway branch of Kent Family History society & we get emails from outside the county asking for help. Ours are a great bunch & someone will always offer to check in the local records. Its worth a try. Shirley

Lynda, If you have an LDS Family History Centre near you, you can order the parish records to be delivered there for a couple of pounds. They will keep the film for about a month to give you time to view them. Kath. x
