SNAP!!! I have 2 ex-miners who became butchers, and another one who became a fish hawker. don't know about the bicycles though (perhaps if they'd lived a bit longer...) Perhaps its just easier to hack away at meat rather than coal when you get older! |

I had a coalminer who became a fish merchant and then sold bicycles. Could be a case of 'I need to go down the mines like a fish needs a bicycle'??? |

Lou, Carman was a delivery man, with a horse & cart. Sometimes abbreviated to carm. Not sure how the vestry bit fits in, as it part of a church! Jay |

I was surprised that my lighterman GGFx3 one of a long line of lightermen suddenly became a stationer tobacconist in his 50's. Thanks to the kindness of a GR member this is borne out by him stopping paying his lightermen subs at the same time. Upwardly mobile bunch those Hansons. |

Maybe he did both jobs all the time, but chose to mention the ''main'' occupation differently on each census?? I have a rellie who was a congregationalist minister, but he never mentioned this on the census, being down as various sorts of clerk. Merry |

Just found a baptist minister in 1851 who by 1861 has become a timber merchant. Still lives next door to the baptist chapel though. (Yes I'm sure its the same guy - family details match) |
