All i know is that they lived in Peckham and that granfather was dead? When i was born in 1945. if some kind person can find him i would be over the moon. I have his birth , marriage and have found him on 1901 census at home with his parents ,so why can't i find when he died. Am i doing something wrong? Ann |

Ancestry uses a copy of FreeBMD database which is by no means complete - especially from 1911 onward, for which there's very little at all transcribed yet. Unless he survived to after 1983 (when the modern records start, and Ancestry has those), you'll probably have to use 1837Online, or one of teh otehr comparable sites. Christine |

The years when he is likely to have died have not been indexed yet on any website, so you have to look through the GRO death indexes quarter by quarter. As was said above, this could work out expensive if you do it online, so if you can get to a records office or a large library that has copies of the indexes you would be best to go there. But you may find a gap between the end of the indexes they have and the 1984-2003 ones on ancestry, so you may still end up having to look through some years on 1837 online or a similar site. If your local record office has the National Probate Calendar you may like to search through that first, because you only have to look at one fiche for each year instead of one for each quarter, but not everybody is listed in there. Kate. |

You wouldn't find the electoral rolls for Southwark (or anywhere else) online, except for very recent ones. Sorry. Looks like you will be trawling through the deaths on 1837 online then! Kate. |
