Does anyone know when this will be complete. I expect ancestry will have the complete 1841 census before this site, but was just wondering.

FreeCEN will take time as it id purely by volenteers but Ancestry can afford to pay transcribers. British Oragins have some counties in 1841 and they are working to transcribe them all, but all the current transcribed counties are complete and available to search

Well I'm typing as fast as I can. I just wish people on here would stop disctracting me with their interesting threads! lol FreeCen relies on volunteers like myself to transcribe the censuses out of the goodness of our hearts! lol. Each piece then has to be checked a couple of times before it is uploaded to the site. FreeCen does what it says on the tin.........it's FREE, unlike Ancestry. And because the transcribers are genuinely interested in family history, and therefore getting it right, it is probably more accurate too. If the area you want isn't available yet and you can spare a bit of time, why not volunteer to do some transcribing yourself? If you fancy giving it a go, give me a shout and I'll point you in the right direction. Jeanette x

well done jeanette for all your hard work and all the other transcribers, i am sure you are right about it being more accurate, some of the mistakes on ancestry are so silly, anyone with half an eye could see what it says. I do wonder sometimes whether their trancribers can actually read! Although not to be too harsh, if it wasn't for ancestry i would never have got so far in my own tree. Keep up the good work

When will this site be complete? Never as far as I'm concerned. I started transcribing for Freecen and would have gone on doing so, but two years have now passed since I submitted my first piece and it doesn't even look like being uploaded. It was a pointless and wasted effort.

Hi David I'm sorry you've had a bad deal with FreeCen. It must be down to the individual County co-ordinator as my transcriptions are still being uploaded. Do you want to message me with the details of the piece you did and who your co-rodinator is/was, and I'll see if I can find out what happened for you Jeanette x
