sorry for the delay in replying. I have installed and re-installed the drivers, and done system restore, all to no avail.

Lynda, I would first go to Windows update (help and support) and choose 'custom' when it has scanned check on the left if there are 'optional hardware updates' and anything related to USB. Other than this uninstall the scanner in control panel and reinstall. Does it have a driver disk? Sometimes USB devices ask you to install the drivers/software BEFORE you connect it and not let windows search when connected. Good luck Bob

Most of the scanners that I have used need the software drivers installed BEFORE you plug in or switch on the scanner. Suggest you disconnect the scanner USB connection, Switch OFF the scanner and uninstall the correct scanner drivers. Then install the drivers and then plug in and switch on the scanner.

Have already done that, xp sees the new hardware, a flatbed scanner, but insists it's a usb camera

Judy Report 28 Nov 2005 13:09

The PC needs to recognize 'new' hardware: 1. Click on START. 2. Click on CONTROL PANEL. 3. Click on ADD HARDWARE from the list and follow the prompts to have the PC recognize the new printer. Judy When you're going through the prompts make sure you choose PRINTER PORT or whatever option pertains to the printer.
