Hi all There was only a couple of replies about this mag in a previous thread and wondered if it the best to subscribe to as hubby is going to purchase a subscription to a mag for Xmas for me. What would you all recommend? Elaine

Elaine, why not pop down to W H Smith and have a shufty through the ones they have, and see which one you like best.

It was just an idea, as this is really a personal opinion sort of thing. I mean, we could recommend what we like, but they may not be suitable for your needs, if you see what I mean.

Totally agree, I was really hoping to have a look there and really thought there would be more then one mag on the subject. Thanks for your help, do you usually buy any of them Elaine

You can always look at the websites for the various mags and see which interest you. I took out a sub for Family Tree last year and to be honest, it doesnt have that much of interest to me. Your Family Tree would have been a better buy for me. I also buy Norfolk Roots which is a localised mag for Norfolk. Try googling for any you are interested in and see if they have any special offers on for subs.

'Your Family Tree' is excellent for beginners and also more experienced people. Sometimes the free disc has great things on - although I find more that don't for me. I always think they must hold useful stuff for others! The other Family Tree mags are cheaper and more 'traditional' sometimes a bit serious, but maybe with more opportunities of contacting people who list names of rellies. (bigger lists in these, but less details) Hope that helps Anne

Hello, I have a subscription to 'Your Family Tree' which in my opinion is the best Family History Magazine on the market. It is a bit more expensive but it is presented in such a delightful and user-friendly way. It's a mine of really useful information. The current edition has a family decorating a Christmas Tree on the front cover and has a really excellent beginners article written by Nick Barrett of 'Who Do You Think You Are' fame. Cheers, Horatia

YFT is the one I choose to have on subscription. Where I live genealogy magazines are few and far between in the shops. When I get a chance to go into a bigger town I generally look at the others. Buy the odd one now and then and I notice many of them now give a CD away a lot since YFT does every issue. Diane
