You sound like you just might have Joseph Senior's first marriage there. There won't be a mariage certificate as it is before 1837. Hope you manage to sort them all out. Kath. x

hi all, thanks for the imput, it does say that joseph is a widower of this parish. i haven't got the actual certificate cause someone sent me loads of entries from baptisms marriages and death in essex. joseph (junior) married keziah plum july 1825 and then joseph (older) married in the october 1825, and it says sarah was a spinster of this parish, so she would of been young because i am sure she is a few years older than keziah. things are starting to became clearer now, i also have a marriage for a joseph brown to a sarah golding/golden 1797 so maybe thats it. im confusing myself now as usual. tracey.

It does sound as though Joseph Junior's mother died and then after Joseph Junior met and married Keziah, his father met Keziah's sister and decided to get married to her. It makes for some interesting relationships. Joseph Junior's sister-in-law becomes his step mother. Keziah's sister becomes her mother -in-law. Joseph Junior's father becomes his brother-in-law. That's if I've got the story right. Can't really help you know for sure unless you can find Joseph Senior's first marriage and then the baptism of Joseph Junior. Kath. x

Well I would place a bet on it being the son!! However, it's hard to prove. Did jun'r sign his name?? If he did, does the sig match with the one from his own marriage a few months before? Merry

And does it say dad is a widower on the cert? Oh, too early for cert isnt it? But should still indicate with a 'w'.

hi kath, thanks for that, much appreciated, the thing is i am trying to prove that joseph brown (the one who married) is the father of the witness joseph brown (junior) the other witness was joseph (junior)wife keziah brown (nee plum/b) these married a couple of months before joseph and sarah. the bride was keziah plum/b's sister sarah plum/b, i have looked on census but he died before 1841, just so i could find his age, cause i can not find it on the I.G.I. i hope i have'nt confused you. many thanks tracey.

It sounds very much like it (at least the son of Joseph, if not Sarah) Are there other witneses? How old do you think the Junior would be likely to be? There is no actual age limit for witnesses as long as they are old enough to know what is going on. Kath. x
