The Princess Alice went down on the Thames in Sept 1878. Here's a libnk to a list of those who died or were injured, including some ages and indications of where they lived. Let me know if you find any treasures! http://www*alsbury*co*uk/princessalice/alice0*htm Replace stars with dots. Sue (in NZ)

Hi Sue, (How are you?) Have just read through the list, nobody there I recognise, but how sad to read of the loss of so many lives. All those families - it is heartbreaking. Where do you find all these fascinating and informative sites? Speak to you soon. Frances

Thanks for that - it's another possible resource. Incidentally, if you trim the URL back a bit, you can find your way to a link to this site: http://www.lostliners.*com/ (remove *) Which may well be of use to someone. Christine

I thing the vast majority of the death registrations for the Princess Alice disaster were in Woolwich district and not until the Dec Q of that year (because of inquests) Merry

Hi Frances, Christine & Merry, Frances - Yes, it'll be nice to catch up soon.via e-mail. We're a bit hectic here at present, being the end of the College year with frantic students and lecturers all trying to meet deadlines! I use GR instead of chocolate to entice myself to finish marking a few more of the pile! I found it by googling for my FINNETT family and wandering through possibilities. The two FINNETs aboard weren't directly connected to mine, but may well have been further back, pre-civil reg. There aren't that many around. When I find fascinating sites, I fell compelled to share. Merry - by the way, one of my FINNETTs had the christian names 'Merry Christmas Rose' - I'm not joking! I haven't bothered looking up her date of birth, but I can make a guess. Christine - great tip about the truncated version. Thanks!

Thats really interesting, thank you for finding it. I know my dad often talked about this disaster, it must have remained in the minds of people in the area for many decades.

I have not looked at your recommendedsite yet, but anyone who has access to The Times archive - there are loads of articles about this disaster - lots of personal tragic stories etc - Also descriptions of the clothing worn by all the unidentified bodies plus their general physical descriptions too. I should imagine quite a few were never identified.....no credit cards in their pockets in those days :O(( Will have a look at the site now and probably find all the same things on there too!! Merry

Thanks for that - i just had a look although I do not think I had any relatives there. But It has reminded me that I have found a medal and some other papers relating to the Lusitania, this may lead me in the direction of how come these pieces were in my grandemothers possesions. Jules. Ps I did see a family called Swan - which i must followup as I have Swans on my grandefathers side...
