Thanks Jess! I probably shouldn't even post this, coz it's offputting and driving me CRAZY....but....In 1861, about 6 months before Catherine married John Hill, I can see this family: Catherine Count abt 1842 Aston, Shropshire, England Daughter Bilston Staffordshire Frederick Count abt 1846 Aston, Shropshire, England Son Bilston Staffordshire James Count abt 1839 Aston, Shropshire, England Son Bilston Staffordshire Jane Count abt 1818 Aston, Shropshire, England Head Bilston Staffordshire John Count abt 1848 Aston, Shropshire, England Son Bilston Staffordshire Joseph Eldershaw abt 1824 Bilston, Staffordshire, England Lodger Bilston Staffordshire John Hill abt 1842 Bilston, Staffordshire, England Lodger Bilston Staffordshire The lodger, John Hill, has age, occupation and place of birth perfect to be the groom.......and there's a flippin' Catherine right age, to be the bride! This ''Aston'' for place of birth for Catherine could be one of about 100 villages (OK, I exagerate) in Shropshire, some of which are really near the places Catherine gave as her place of birth in later records. My gut instinct is that somehow this Catherine is Catherine Beeson. However, whoever this family are, I cannot find them anywhere else either 1871 or 1851 Grrrrr. I know....I need the marriage cert, but it's not my tree, so will have to persuade the descendant that it's necessary! Merry |

Ooh, well done....what a difference one letter makes!! So, Corfton is in the parish of Diddlebury (you couldn't make it up, could you?!) and Diddlebury is 6.9 miles from Ludlow. Sounds good to me. Wonder where she is in the earlier censuses? Thanks Helen x Merry |

I had a look, Merry and then consulted my road atlas. There's a Corfton in Shropshire, could that be it? Helenxx |

I have Mrs Catherine Hill on three census pages from 1871 - 1891 inc. In 1871 she says she was born in Shropshire, Ludlow In 1891 she says Shropshire, Not Known (she was dead by 1901) In 1881, please could someone tell me where this place ''Corfen''(???) might be? The ref is: Catherine Hill b abt 1842 RG11/2812 Folio: 31 Page: 10 I have a birth cert for her first know child which gives her maiden name as Beeson. However, I have been unable to trace a Catherine/Kate Beeson/Beason/Beasom/Beesom etc etc born anywhere in Shropshire on the 1861 or 1851 census..... She married John Hill in Q4 1861 in Dudley district. No, I haven't got the cert yet :O(( On the marriage index entry and her child's birth cert her forename is spelled CathArine, but Catherine on all the census records. Any ideas, chaps???? |
