Some census sheets look beautiful, but they are still undecipherable! I think they should have been made to write in black ink and block capitals - that way we'd only be criticising their spelling! nell |

Merry Sounds like my daughter's handwriting. There's only her that can read it. Her teacher is trying to get her to improve it. Like that will ever happen. She been writing like it since she was 7 and is now 14. Joy |

Merry That's the thing that drives me mad. Some writing looks like a spider crawled across it and are as clear as mud. Others are beautifully written everything is as clear as day. Joy |

Re vanished thread dub/dupmaker, 1851 Sarah Shippam!!.............The thing that looks like a ''p'' is a double s, as in dressmaker..........I promise she didn't make dups or dubs!! Not helped by the hopeless ''r'' as the second character.................I wonder what the enumerators would think of us scrutinising their handwriting after 150+ years??!! I certainly wouldn't want anyone to read my shopping list LOL............Happy Hunting - Merry x |
