Help please. I use Firefox as my browser. I had about 80 bookmarked genealogy sites - quite apart from all the other non-genealogy ones. Yesterday my 22 year old son did something to Firefox and all my bookmarks have disappeared. I have pinned him to the floor and interrogated him, and all he can tell me is that it would not allow him to open a page he wanted to open, then it asked him if he wanted to create a new profile, so he said yes, and the page he wanted opened. I have mopped up his blood and disposed of the body. Can anyone tell me how to recover my lost bookmarks? Tina |

This has happened to my husband´s machine - can´t at the moment remember how we got the bookmarks back - give me a minute or two and I´ll get back to you. |

Am searching through the Mozilla help files for you but haven´t found it yet. Can you check whether there is a file in your recycle bin called bookmarks.html Elaine |

Have found the help page – http://kb*mozillazine*org/Lost_bookmarks replace * with . You can also find out how to back up your bookmarks in case this happens again! We were fortunate as when this happened on our machine we hadn´t closed Mozilla down and it was relatively easy to get back to the original bookmarks. I presume if your son did this last night then the machine has been closed down. If the bookmarks.html file is still in the recycle bin it might be worth trying to restore it and see what happens. Of course, the other option if you are using Windows XP is system restore. Good luck - hope it works Elaine |

Tracy, it doesn't say Profiles anywhere. Elaine, there is nothing in the recycle bin. Tina |

Do you have Profile Manager in your Start Menu for Mozilla? |

Yeeeeeeeeeeees! Done it. Thank you all you wonderful people. Went to the Mozilla website, searched for 'Profiles', that told me about backing them up and changing the default. Found the 'Profiles.ini' file, discovered said son had created a new profile which was now the default one, changed the default path back to the original profile. Hey Presto - all my bookmarks back again. Suppose I ought to go and resussitate son now. I am just grateful that it is not this afternoon that I have to go and get my blood pressure checked! Many many thanks for all the help. Tina PS I like the idea of Mozilla Firefox being an ancestor! Beats William Jones into a cocked hat. |
