I wrote to The United Synagogue to see if they had my rellies burial info, well they found both their graves and kindly sent me the details but as I wanted to see the burial authorisation I had to send £17 for the first one and and £10 for the second one which I think is very steep but as I really needed this I sent for them. How much are they usually, or are Jewish ones always dearer ???

the reason I want it is because I am having trouble finding out anything about them and was told by the Rabbi there would be info like who had arranged the Burial etc and other details not on a death cert

Thats a bargain compared to the £30 I was quoted to even check that the rellies are there by Lambeth Council!!! Given the number of rellies I suspect are in their cemeteries it is actually working out cheaper for me to go down there and stay in a hotel and check the records myself! S

Sarah thats terrible I must say they did not charge at all for finding their burials which I thought was very good. But just thought it was a lot of money considering its all on computer.

I went to my local cem and they told me all the info like who was buried in the grave, if the grave was private, who the grave belonged to and who and where the person who booked the funeral was and lived as well as other things like who was the undertakers and the reverand. They were also able to tell me if they had matting at the grave side or bells at the service. I then contacted the undertakers and they told me more about the service and the type of funeral they had. All the info i have was free.

Have you tried phoning???

Sarah Report 23 Oct 2005 18:06

I must admit I nearly fell off the chair laughing when they told me the price! I think it depends on who answers the phone personally - some cemeteries are great, really helpful, give loads of information and do it all for free, some want to charge a fortune just to tell you what you already know - that one of your rellies is buried there! Wish me luck with my graveyard trek next weekend - am I weird for looking forward to visiting graveyards??? S.

Val Just checked with my boyfriend who is Jewish and also tracing his Family Tree. Sadly that seems to be the 'going rate' for the additional information through the United Synagogue. Chris
