Does anyone else visit there? I'm going on Wednesday - my first visit, but I have been to other ROs. Anything in particular I need to know/take? Gwynne |

HI...it's very near the railway station , if that is a help at all....and the shops if you need a break. Staff very helpful, and there is a small area with a hot drinks machine where you can eat your sandwich if you can't bear to take time to go out for lunch! Might be a good idea to ring and book a reader if you are going to look at microfilms.Enjoy. Joan |

Thanks, Joan. I will be going by train - to the Library rather than the RO, they are different buildings, I think. I want to look at the marriage indexes among other things. I've booked a reader. .... and I may have a look at the shops..... Gwynne |

I have visited the family history centre in Worcester, which is run by Worcester Library services (it's a different building to the actual public library in Worcester) I've enjoyed my visits & always try to get a reader near the GRO index microfiches. Can't be bothered walking any further than needed! There is also a small shop by the reception area which sells books of interest, magazines & maps etc. Aswell as the film indexes there is quite a large selection of books. I've been a few times & only on my last visit did I venture as far as these & managed to spend ages looking at them even though my family don't actually come from Worcestershire! As the others have said it's very near Foregate Street Station (if you aren't familiar with Worcester don't get off at Shrub Hill station as it will be much further to walk into town!) & slap bang in the middle of the shopping centre. Enjoy your visit. |

Thanks, Jennifer. I'll check that the train I'm hoping to catch stops at Foregate. I've downloaded a map from the site so I'm hoping not to get totally lost. Gwynne |

Hi Gwynne I was there yesterday! Foregate St is on the line from Hereford to Birmingham so if you end up at Shrub Hill, don't worry as you can get a connection. turn left out of the station and head up into town. 5 minute walk, crossing 2 roads with traffic lights. Immediately after second crossing turn left and walk down this road a short way and take first right. The building on your left is the one you want (used to be co op and one end sells furniture) Other end is History centre. No bags allowed so get a locker (£1 returnable) I hope you find what you need netti |
