Does anyone have any info on these two ships. I think Vivid may have been a training ship of some sort, probably in Devonport. My Father in law served as Stoker 1 on Vivid from 1 October 1917 when he was exactly 18 to 11 March 1918 then on Adventure as stoker 11 until 1819 when he was demobbed. Ann glos |

Ann Not a great deal of information, but worth googling HMS+Vivid (+ helps to ensure matches with both words are at the top of the list) There's more on HMS+Adventure (possibly because it was newer?) Elly |

Many thanks Elly. it seems HMS vivid was the original name for Devonport Dockyard. I also found the HMS Adventure my FiL served on. (There were more than one). thanks again Ann Glos |

HMS Vivid was originally the Royal Navy Barracks based at Keyham, and was not another name for the Devonport Dockyard. The Royal Naval Barracks was completed in 1886 and accommodated 5,000 men. It became a shore based ship in January 1892. My father served on HMS Vivid before the Second World War and at end of 2 W War HMS Vivid became HMS Drake and he was demobbed from HMS Drake in 1945. In 1961 the name Royal Barracks was dropped and just became known as HMS Drake. Further info on website given. Remove brackets. http(://)www.plymouthdata(.)info/Royal(%)20Naval(%)20Barracks(.)htm Janet |

Many thanks Janet, i misread what I found on the web, I didn't realise it was HMS Drake, Interesting because his son, my husband served at HMS Fisguard, torpoint. Not a million miles away. By the way Tony realised that I meant Drake. I just checked with him. Ann Glos |

If you're wanting to narrow down the search results, you're probably better of searching for (e.g.) ''HMS vivid''. That is to say, putting double inverted commas around the bits you want Google to treat as a single item. Christine |

Janet, yes Tony was a 'Tiffy', so were several of my previous boyfriends. I grew up living in a road that ran along the fence of HMS Collingwood where some of the Tiffys went after Fisguard. Those were the days!! Ann Glos |

Julie, yes I checked the archives site and downloaded FiL's records (such as they were) last night, that is how I found the shipps that he served in. Ann Glos |
