I've had a look too, no luck with the info given. Any idea what area it was in? The minimum spend on 1837 is £5, gives 50 (might be 55) credits that last 3 months. 1 credit for a records page, 3 for a look at a census page (I think) Suex |

The minimum to look up would be one credit per name per quarter, i.e. 4 credits per year. However, if it's a common name it might run onto a second page. So for 50 credits you should be able to cover 5 years for both parties to a marriage with a few left over. |

Angela - it may be difficult to find the marriage on 1837 online if Taylor was Edith's maiden name and she was married before she married William, because she will most probably be listed on there under her surname from her first marriage. And if you don't know what that was, then with both Taylor and Jones being such common names, there could be quite a few to choose from. Still, let's hope there aren't too many William T. Jones who got married 1950-1: use 8 credits (or it could be one or two extra if the William Joneses go over from one page to the next) to look up all the William T. Jones marriages, get all the spouses' maiden names, and if any is Taylor look her up first to see if her first name is Edith F., if not then I am afraid you will have to look all the rest up to try to find any Edith F's. Then if you get the marriage cert it will tell you if Edith's maiden name was Taylor. But as to how many credits you will need, if she got married under a different surname from Taylor, it could be quite a few. Kate. |

An afterthought... if you're sure her surname was Taylor when your mother was born, then you can also look for Edith F. Taylor marriages from 1946 to 1950 and cross-check the surnames of spouses against the possible spouses for William T. Jones 1950-1, if you see what I mean. Kate. |

I've checked 1950 and 1951 for William T. Jones marriages. Can't find any to a Taylor. The only one registered in Birmingham was a William T. Jones to a Rodds, Dec. qtr. 1951, Birmingham, 9c, 588 If you think Edith may have been married before, you could try ordering that certificate and giving her maiden name as a checking point. That way if it's not the right one, you will only lose £3 instead of £7 for the wrong certificate. Also remember that people's memories play tricks on them. I have a friend whose father was convinced that when he was 7 years old his mother died at the age of 27. It turns out she was 27 when he was born, so in her thirties when she died. Kath. x |

By an unlikely chance (about 375 to 2), the very last name on a page of marriages Dec 1951 is Edith F. Rodds. So it says on 1837 online's index. I didn't bother to view the page, but I bet the volume and page number will match William T. Jones! So now if you search for Edith F. Taylor marrying a Rodds, you should find her first marriage too!
