Thanks for the help, everyone. Sorry for the delay. I got involved in dull things like domestic duties and going to work!

scotlandspeople has marriages and births from 1554 to 1854 it is £6 for 30 credits and the births before 1854 you have to order certificates but what is on site is what is on the certificate you should try all spellings of surnames as sometimes they make a mistake with spelling

Did Civil Registrations not start in Scotland until 1855? I am looking for someone born in about 1842. How do I go about it? I couldn't find her on Scotland's People or the IGI.

I don't think so. This is what it has... » Births 1855-1904 » Marriages 1855-1929 » Deaths 1855-1954 For anything later, you need to go to the GROS. There's nothing online though. See this page... http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/famrec/bdm/index.html

Scotlands People is the only site I know of. Covers Civil Registration from 1855. It also has censuses from 1871-1901. Also Old Parish Records (not complete) from 1553-1854. It's pay-as-you-go, like 1837online.
