HI I have William Clemmitt born abt 1828 in Glaisdale, Yorkshire. I found an 1861 census entry for William Clemmitt born in 1828 in Danby Yorkshire. Are they close enough for me to claim him ??? Thanks

Christopher

In North Yorkshire just west of Whitby on the east coast are two villages very close to one another. If you use Google maps you will find them by following the A171 out of Whitby. The two villages are just south of the road. First you will find Glaisdale and then Danby. Both villages are passed by the railway. So I think you may have found the right connection. The area in which the villages are situated is a walkers paradise. The North Yorkshire Moors are truely beautiful. Regards,Christopher Burns

Another area of investigation may be to get someone to view the census material. I know for a fact that the town of Scarborough on the East coast holds census material for North Yorkshire as I was recently there doing some investigations my self. You could ask the library if they could do some investigations on your behalf. Below is there address details. Jon Webster Reference Library Scarborough Library and Information Centre Vernon Road Scarborough North Yorkshire YO11 2NN Tel: 01723 383 400 Fax: 01723 353 893 Email: [email protected] Regards, Christopher Burns

Karen, Do you have a copy of the 1861 and 1871 census images for the entry you mention. If not, I've saved the images. There is also a Richard Clemmitt, farmer, born Danby, on the 1861 census, who could possibly be a relative. Have saved this image too, if you haven't got it. Kath. x

Thanks Kathleen. I hadn't found Richard. I do have ancestry, so I have the image, thanks anyway. It's making the people fit into my tree that is the tricky part ! LOL I'll go & see if I can find a spot for Richard as well. Every Clemmitt in Yorkshire must be mine.......it is an unusual name. There are none at all in Australia. Just have to find how they are related. Cheers Karen
