Depends on what you want to research, and where. If you're looking for births/marriages/deaths and you want to do it online, then about your only options for the period 1911-1983 are 1837online or FamilyRelatives - both sites have a pay-per-view copy of the GRO index online. Richard

Sorry to be a pain, but was there electoral registers at that time? Lin

Lin - Yes there are electoral rolls, but you'd need to go to a library local to the area of interest. The historical rolls are not available online as far as I know. Richard

Also you can go to a record office or probate registry which has copies of the National Probate Calendar for that period to look through to see if any of your rellies died and left a will. Kate.

**there are online BMD INDEXES after 1920,but you have to get lucky with the area. **second source =ELECTORAL ROLES-libraries differ hugely in their access regulations. **third source=GORES TRADE DIRECTORIES or equivalent-they go up to the 1970's at least. **fourth source=old TELEPHONE DIRECTORIES are available for certain years-this varies according to what library. **remember despite PARISH REGISTERS going way back to the 1500's they are available on microfilm for the 1950's in certain libraries and County records offices. If you name an area,I could be more specific as to what is available in 10 minutes
