How do you know? Do you mean you need to find the ref for her marriage after she was widowed? I would imagine that she would marry using her late husbands name so would need to search for that in the index. Pippa |

Well when and where and who are you looking for? I have been unable to find a 2nd marriage for my great grandmother which should have taken place sometime after 1 May 1879 when her first husband died, and 3 April 1881 when she is on the census with 2nd husband. I have looked at parish records for Islington where she was in 1879 and Greenwich where she was in 1881 without success. I then entertained the murky thought that they didn't marry as he was already married, but have not found a marriage for him at all anywhere. nell |

Have you found a death entry for her first husband. If you can give us a name, place and date range we could have a look for you. |

How do you know that she only married twice? One of my ancestors lost three wives in as many years. I don't *think* he was a Bluebeard, but he clearly couldn't cope without a wife. If you can find a marriage for the husband you know about, but it doesn't cross reference to the right surname, look at the surnames it does x ref to and then look for a marriage between your ancestor (under her widowed surname) and those x ref'd surnames. |

Widen your search. My great grandfather died aged 33 in 1876. His wife is in 1881 census as a widow.... with a young baby. By 1891 she is apparently 'married' with 3 more children, but didn't actually marry the man until 1892. Goodness knows why she waited till then, as both had a spouse, who had died long before. |

In 1974 when I was 12 I went to my granparents marriage!!! She had apparently married before and something happened? She changed her name by deedpoll to my grandfathers name and they lived together for over 40 years without actually marrying! |
