Hi Can some kind person advise me. When I entered details on my tree (the old one) I made a mess with paternal grandmother, gave her the wrong husband and hildren surname, how can I delete that entry, when I click on delete, it tells me I cnnot do so, I have made the correction on the new tree details, but how on earth can I tie the two together. Getting a bit flumoxed looks as though I will have to make complete new entries, in view of recent information, instead of just adjusting information already in, I don`t fancy doing the whole thing all over again!!

Hi Maud... I think you should email the Genes team and explain and they can do it for you from their end. Dee x

Maud I guess it is telling you can't delete because there are children. If so....The standard answer is you have to delete all children (and children's childen et al) until you get to the base of that line. I had a similar problem which had meant so many names it made my head dizzy to think about reinputting them!! I e.mailed 'Contact Us' on GC asking for help and the message returned was basically....Tough and get deleting :( After taking advice from others on this board I exported my tree to another site. It is is far more user friendly for doing this type of admendment and I have never looked back. I now use that as my main site and download my 'easily' amended tree to here on a regular basis. I again contacted GC to advise them of my opinions as to the ease I had found in using another site, compared to their own, for such basic amendments but didn't recieve a reply :( Chris

Hi Janette! Yes it may say that there are so many names, but I can't view it! Perhaps some kind soul will request a view and try to see if it works for them! thanks A

Thanks for your replies, I think the best I should do, is to delete the whole thing and start over again on ther new tree, it would be quicker I thibnk than faffing about removing children here & there, I made a right 'cock up'with a lot of the input for the original, but now I have a better idea of what to do (I`m also on Tribval Pages and have gained a bit more experience, so all I have to do is copy it all on here now. Thanks guys for your comments

Well at least its nice to know that I`m not the only one who has made a mess of inputting information, I had sent a message to the GR yesterday, but have not heard from them as yet, so I`ll go ahead I think and just put most of the info on to the new tree. Trouble is,if I let people see my tree, how do I know if they are looking at the messy one, or the new one? I do wish it was easier to make corretions (like you can on Tribal Pages for instance) without having to wade through a load of deleting children etc. Hopefully b y Wednesday I will have enough time to make a start, can`t do much today am off to my over 60s club soon, and then tomorrow have the nurse calling for my blood test and then my home help comes a bit later, so m ost of that day has gone by without my being able to make much progress, I can only spend a limited time period on the computer in any case, if I don`t have constant breaks I will have lot of pain, so I have to make sure I will be able to spend at least an hour, mornings are my best time after I`ve had my medications etc, in the afternoon I usually have to have a snooze for an hour or so, so that leaves me a very brief time to get much work done, so for the mment I`ll earmark Wednesday and keep my fingers crossed
