Hello I'm currently using generations and have been for the last five years. I'm happy with its layout but as the company Sierra have been taken over and no new patches are available for it and it is beginning to have compatibility probs with my windows and virus protectors. It's now not letting me print out family information or deletes bits that I update. This is becoming a problem, so I think its time to start again. Can anyone suggest a good alternative that is suitable for UK data i.e starting with oldest ancestors and working down towards the newest decendants on charts rather than the USA alternative i.e youngest at the top. Many thanks for advice Jenny

Thanks Alan Do you use this, how easy is it ? Do you get to print off family groups plus charts and personel details etc? Does it let you chart oldest at the top (UK way)or USA way at bottom? Thanks Jenny

Jenny, Chris in Sussex has a thread about a free trial for FTM - that might be the way to go before you buy. Margaret

I picked up a copy of Family Historian from WH Smith as it was on offer 50% off. You get a free update to the latest version from their website. It's quite powerful and lets you view all rellies not just descendants or ancestors which my previous package did.

Hello Jonathon, is yours still allowing you to print family group sheets? I've updated so much info lately and just can't print it out. So frustrating!!! Like you I've concluded that its not XP compatable. My Mum has bought an update for 15.00 but I've already purchased the original USA version then the UK update and am reluctant to throw anymore money at a programe that seems has no after sales support for UK users. Shame though as I like the layout & features it has. Definately think I'll go for the Family Tree Maker, especially if there's a 50% discount at the moment. Best wishes Jenny
