Sue, Merry and Angela, thanks for your comments. I am fairly certain this must be her as I don't think she moved away from the village and there are no other likely females about. One of my husband's aunts is named after her, but always called Jenny. Another aunt called her first daughter Jeanette. nell

I have a Jannet in my tree born abt 1840. She has her name spelled a million different ways, Jennette, Janet, Jannat, Jenet (Ok, nearly) inc with a G - Gennet and Gannette (isn't a gannet a seabird??). Another name that caused probs and begins with J is Joanna. Johanna, Joanna, Johanner, Joana, etc Maybe sometimes Mary is easier? Merry

Hi Helen just to say I have someone in my tree who married Jeannette and have found the name spelt Jeannet or Jenett. his granddaughter was called Gennet, which I take to be yet another spelling of the name. Angela

For Janet Lloyd. She is recorded as Janet Williams formerly Lloyd on her daughter's birth cert. She and husband Thomas are on all the censuses 1871 onwards. Easy to find as he is an engine driver. although Janet is recorded as Janet, she was illiterate, and family always referred to her as Jennet. Couldn't find a Janet or Jennet in 1861, but I found a Gennet Lloyd, born 2 years earlier than the one in the censuses with Thomas, but she does have a younger brother Griffith in 1861 and in 1871 has a son called Griffith. 1861 ref RG9/4082/34/24 & 5 1871 RG10/543/39/ p30 Am I clutching at straws?! nell
