For a long time I was unable to find my grandmother on the 1901. Her name was Ellen Elizabeth and I had a copy of her birth cert from 1897. After lots of trying, finally thought to try HELEN Elizabeth and lo and behold there she was! Living with the family of the woman who was to become her stepmother later that year. Ellen's father had also been a prob - Edward Thomas. Finally found him at the address given on Ellen's b.cert - calling himself Ted! Also giving not known for place of birth! Finally found his family by tracing back the address given on his marriage certificate in 1891. So keep thinking folks - it's not always as easy as you first thought! |

Coincidentally, I was just looking up some birth refs for a family where the mother was called Ellen (the WA birth refs give parents names in the index, which is a great help!). Anyway, she had five kids, and managed to spell her name differently nearly every time: Ellen, Eleanor, Helena and Ellenor! |

My Elizabeths had the annoying habit of suddenly deciding to become Betsey of Bessy when they got older. My Francises were sometimes christened Frank and a Margaret was christened Peggy. |
